The History of Catherine and David Birnie
Catherine and David Birnie both grew up in Perth - Australia and were both born into very dysfunctional families in 1951.
David was one of six children and was raised by alcoholic parents. At an early age, David's parents divorced, with neither parent wanting custody of him, which ended up in him being in and out of foster homes.
Catherine's mother died when she was 10 months old. She then moved to South Africa to live with her father for two years, until she moved back again to Australia to live with her grandparents. About a year later, she was sent to live with her Auntie and Uncle. All of this became hard on Catherine and she became a very sad and lonely young girl, she always felt unwanted being thrown from one household to another and only ever wished for love and affection.
